Every archaeology department researched for this list, in one place: the global/US top ten, departments 11–20, and every remaining school on Silas's own application list. 218 faculty across 37 departments, compiled July 2026 from department websites, faculty profiles and CVs.
Where a field reads "Not listed," the item was not published in any source consulted — a gap in the public record, not a claim about the person. Entries marked (unconfirmed) had conflicting or single-source information. The Leiden and UK entries are capped representative samples of much larger faculties and are labelled as such.
⬇ Download the full dataset as CSV — all 218 rows with every column, including department, group, title, both degrees, research area, email and profile URL. Opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
Citation counts — partial, and here's why. Citations, h-index and the linked author record come from OpenAlex, an open bibliographic database. Each name is matched against candidate author records and scored on whether the record's institution matches the employing department and whether its topics are archaeology-adjacent, so a physicist with the same name doesn't get attached to an archaeologist. Only high- and medium-confidence matches are published as numbers; anything ambiguous is left blank rather than guessed. OpenAlex enforces a daily request budget which this run exhausted partway through, so 62 of 218 currently carry figures and the rest await a re-run after the reset. The citation_match column in the CSV records the confidence for every row. Treat the numbers as indicative: OpenAlex sometimes splits one scholar across several author records, which understates totals.
Contact coverage. Names link to the faculty profile page where one was found. Emails and profile links were harvested from the departments' own public directories — nothing is guessed or pattern-derived, so where a cell reads "—" the address was not published anywhere the harvester could reach. Current coverage: profile link for 117 of 218 (54%), email for 80 of 218 (37%), concentrated in departments that publish a full staff directory. Several universities render their directories with JavaScript or block automated access, which is why coverage is uneven by school rather than random. For anyone missing, the profile page usually carries the address and is one search away.

Swarthmore has no dedicated archaeology faculty. Ancient-world coursework sits in Classics; there is no archaeology major or programme. This is the weakest archaeology case of any school on the list and should be weighed against its other strengths.
Haverford has no archaeology faculty of its own; its Classics department covers literature and ancient history. The Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology major is taught at Bryn Mawr and available to Haverford students through the Bi-College arrangement — which is the entire archaeology case for Haverford.
